If your Windows OS is experiencing issues that are unable to be resolved by performing general system maintenance or using a Windows system restore, you may proceed with an in-place reinstallation of the Windows operational files, which will keep your apps and files intact, but reinstall the files needed to run Windows. 


Please note that this operation may only be performed if Windows is booting and operational.


To perform an in-place install of Windows: 


1. Click Start. 

2. Type: Reset. 

3. Click the found item, Reset this PC.

4. Click Reinstall Now next to "Fix problems using Windows Update": 



Click OK in the following dialog box: 



Follow onscreen instructions. 


Windows will download the necessary files to perform an in-place reinstallation of Windows. 


When the process is done, your PC should reboot,  and your apps, documents, and settings will be retained.
